A citywide coalition working to eliminate hepatitis B
Coalition Mission
The NYC Hep B Coalition Mission is to coordinate efforts to prevent, manage and reduce hep B among all city residents. The coalition seeks to foster an inclusive collaboration among all stakeholders to advance hep B awareness, screening, access to care, and vaccination through education, outreach, advocacy and support of research.

Meeting Minutes
The Hep Free NYC Advocacy Leadership Committee is one of the most active and effective hepatitis B and C advocacy groups in the nation with some members who are new to advocacy and some with over a decade of experience in federal, state, and local policy issues. Every year, the committee develops the New York City and State budget and legislative priorities for Hep Free NYC and provides trainings and educational resources to help people affected by viral hepatitis engage with policymakers.
Opportunities of Membership:
- To have a voting role in policy and budget agenda setting for Hep Free NYC
- To receive mentoring and support from other committee members in learning about
hepatitis B and C budget and legislative advocacy - To get opportunities for networking and leadership development through creating and
participating in committee trainings and events - To help your organization build closer relationships with City and State elected officials
Responsibilities of Membership:
- Attend bi-weekly meetings (the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month)
- Help plan activities around the city and state advocacy calendar, including trainings,
committee briefings, and legislative education days - Disseminate and promote upcoming committee-related events to your networks
- Demonstrate a commitment to working collaboratively with other committee members
- The total time commitment is roughly 2-6 hours per month (varies based on time of year).

Resources
Tools and Training for Hep B Navigation, Programs and Clinicians
Medication coverage resources, help resolving coverage issues or filing a complaint, and programs that assist with drug costs and co-pays.
The goal of the Check Hep B Patient Navigation Program is to link NYC residents living with Hep B to medical care. Patient navigators support patients to complete Hep B medical evaluation, stay in Hep B care and treatment (if recommended), and maintain liver health. This program is funded by New York City Council and administered by the NYC Health Department.

Program services
Check Hep B Patient Navigators provide the following services at no cost to the patient: Hep B health promotion, referrals to supportive services, linkage to Hep B medical care, accompaniment to or reminders for medical appointments, alcohol and drug counseling, case conferencing, treatment readiness and adherence support, and medication access support.
To be eligible, patients must reside in NYC and have a positive hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) test result.
