to address the high rates of hepatitis B and C infection among African communities in New York City.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Viral hepatitis is highly endemic in many parts of Africa \u2014 defined by the CDC as a prevalence of 8% to 20% \u2014 and rates among Africans living in the United States are similar to rates on the continent. New York City is home to a large African-born population, but public health awareness of the burden of disease in this community remains limited.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Our goal is to bring together NYC organizations, service providers and advocates dedicated to ending hepatitis B and C in African communities throughout the city.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"hf-section\">Our Objectives<\/h2>\r\n\r\n<ol class=\"hf-goals\">\r\n\t<li>Build community and provider partnerships for prevention.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Raise awareness about hepatitis among African-born populations.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Provide screening, immunization and referral services for African immigrants and refugees.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Increase hepatitis B screening and immunization rates among African immigrants at higher risk.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Identify and reduce cultural and language barriers to immunization, screening and treatment for liver disease.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"hf-section\">Find Testing &amp; Care<\/h2>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"hf-panel\">\r\n\t<p>A list of hepatitis testing, vaccination and treatment sites offering free and low-cost care for hepatitis B and C across New York City.<\/p>\r\n\t<p><a class=\"hf-btn\" href=\"https:\/\/hepfree.nyc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/CHIPO-Hep-Referral-Guide-NYC_3-21-24.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Download the CHIPO Referral Guide (PDF)<\/a><\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"hf-sub\">Testing &amp; Vaccination<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"hf-outline\">\r\n\t<p class=\"hf-outline-title\">African Services Committee<\/p>\r\n\t<p>Free hepatitis B and C testing and hepatitis B vaccination for people at risk.
